Question doesnt make too much clear sense, east or west OF THE EARTH? The shadow tracks over the earth landscape or seascape from our west to our east. If you are in a high elevation, like on a mountain looking into a valley, you can see the shadow as it races across the earth. From a plane you can see all of the shadow as a dark circle moving west to east..During solar eclipses scientific planes travel in the shadow for experiments and to them the eclipse lasts almost 8 minutes long while to us, totality is only a couple of minutes.

There is no East or West outside the boundaries of earth. Depending on where one is standing, these directions can be diferent to an observer in space. They are directions on a circle.
