the nomenclature is 2-methyl-2-propyl-1,3-propanediol

methyl means it has a methyl group attached. A methyl group is a CH3. Propyl means it has a propyl group attached, or CH3-CH2-CH2. Both of these are attached to the second carbon in the chain.Something else is on carbons 1 and 3, but the question does not show enough information to finish.

And... 2 methyl is 2 methyl groups joined the 2 pro (something) but it has run out where is the rest of the question?
