Pacino is a better actor, but I think that De Niro has more range. He can do drama and comedies, whereas I can't think of a funny movie that Pacino has been in.

Daniel Day Lewis is probably the best actor around. He doesn't do many films but he seems to earn a best actor nomination every time he does a film. He has won for his performance in My Left Foot and as far as mainstream films go his portrayal of Bill the Butcher in Gangs of New York was fabulous.
I would definitely take DeNiro over Pacino because in the last 15 years Pacino has fallen into this horrible habit of over-acting and just shouting throughout his films.

De Niro in Godsend. Pacino in Scarface. They are both amazing actors and 2 of the best.

Of the two you mention, I think it's very close. I guess I'd have to go with De Niro. As for the best actor... I'd have a tough time choosing. You have those actors who are deceased... like Marlon Brando, who at his prime I feel was actually the best. For those living, Johnny Depp, Sean Connery, Harrison Ford, Nicholas Cage and Jack Nicholson have all had roles in which they have really shined.

Pacino is very good but I have to go with DeNiro. Just watch 'The Deer Hunter' and you'll see why.

Pacino, has had more success as a character actor over the course of his carreer....

I guess they are almost on the same level...but going with the movie choices over the years i wud have to say Robert Deniro
