right now they are doing expeirements on creating a small worm hole with a super atom conductor that speeds up the atoms at the highest speeds that have been done untill now(its like a giant round sphere that needs the energy of a city to be charged),with this expeirement started we can find out what other atoms exist even smaller than the quarx thus finding out if its possible to travel the speed of light, the next step ofcourse will be to make a material that would withstand turning to a million molicules so that if we travel with that speed we wont dissinigrate inside it. the theory is there technology is doing the rest ,i think it will soon be possible, ofcourse this expeirament a bunch of scientists are doing somewhere in brussles might backfire and make an antimatter black hole in that case just might swallow up everything around it(hopefully not). wormholes are like a cut in time between to points ,its like light travel (stargate if you remember the movie). did you know that if you would travel to the moon and back with light speed you would get back 1 second before you left, because when you bend time your actually faster than it, you wont age everybody else would though......very interesting topic, i think you can find the super atom conductor somewhere in the net ,write antimatter conductor and search

As they say, it's all relative. Relative to the ends of the observable universe, we are already travelling extremely close to the speed of light.

If you're talking about in a vehicle, it doesn't look good, but nobody can predict when the breakthrough will come. It requires a breakthrough, though, we don't really have a good idea on how to get near to it. Einstein says it's not possible actually reach it, but you can get arbitrarily close to it. We can shoot electons at almost the speed of light...

particles in an accelerator can be made to travel very close to the speed of light. for humans in a craft, no where near at the moment

Knowing what I know about the state of research into this question.......never...... because the speed of light is a special property of the fine structure of reality. However, if you said, "how long till we can travel faster than light"......I would say 50-100 years.

Diablous.....I suggest before you go calling people idiots for expressing their opinions or observations of where we're at in science, that you actually do some research and then understand what you're talking about. It's clear from your comment that you don't know what you're talking about nor have you read any of the theory behind it. If you have read anything, then it just goes to doubly prove your lack of understanding.

Not even close. We have aircraft that only go a couple of times the speed of sound. The speed of light is substantially greater.

Were it even possible, my hunch is that no one on the planet today will live to see it in their lifetimes.

We are as close to traveling at light speed as we are to counting to infinite!

...stop being idiots...sonic speed is nearly a billion times smaller than lightspeed...and accelerating particles isn't needed when we have the light particles already...

And EVEN if we had a vehicle we haven't developped any kind of protection for the human body to withstand 1 over a million of that speed....

YES just like electro train( MEGLEV train), bullet train or sonic aircraft that is concluded as an aircraft that travels higher than speed of light!!

it is very far for us to reach the speed of light, our current technology permits only less than .01% of our man-made crafts compared to the speed of light
