I agree with yuo that they are way overpayed. I don't agree that they're nobodies, because everybody is a somebody~ however, I think people that work their butts off, putting their lives on the line and doing some actual good~ moving mountains~ are very underrated, underpayed and underappreciated. We all enjoy a good movie, but I think those HUGE incomes could be better spent making a REAL difference in the world. That goes for sports people too. How can someone earn so much playing all day?! It's not right when there are som many poor people in the world who can't even afford to eat. Priorities are way off in this country.

Good point well made! However the biggest problem with the existence of celebrity lead culture is that it leads to a dumbing down of what the media hold up as newsworthy. In that way debate about real issues of social justice are seen as boring and not "sexy enough" so we then have an undereducated public who don't care about the old age pensioner next door who freezes each winter because they can't afford to turn on their heating, or the fact that the majority of people in the world live in poverty. Instead they get more worked up in the trival publicity seeking crap that famous people get wrapped up in and in the grand scale of things isn't really that important. I see that some of the other people answering say that celebrities are good because they provide some escapism, but this is just an excuse not to face up to the fact we live and are part of an unjust, exploitive world, and the ruling classes use these celebrities as a way of ensuring proper debate does not take place, and so they can get on with screwing everyone else and get away with it.

Yes it is very sad that the general public lives are so uninteresting that they have to live in the world of other people.
I read a fictional book if I want to escape for a while, at least I am using my own imagination.
I do not understand reality TV, because it is not real, the so called contestants know the cameras are there, so surely they are going to put an act on. This means they are not really being themselves, yet people vote for them thinking this is their real personality. Dead heads! the lot of them, probably the same people who shout out to actors from soaps they see in the street, either giving them grief or praising them???? Schinooble dooble skinooty froid :0 )

I agree. They are only human and because they appear on the TV people make gods out of them and a lot then develop this super ego that expects to have it's every whim pandered to.
It annoys me.

Well... everyone has the right to spend their time and money on whatever they like. I don't care about "celebrities", but a lot of people do. It's a free country. You're entitled to be smart, stupid, freaky, or whatever lol.

That is their chosen direction in life. I agree that sporting celebs are over paid. But that is the way the cookie crumbles. You can go in that direction if you want to. It is all about choice.

If you had the talent to sing/dance/act/model and you hit big, you would not be asking this question. Just pay your taxes like we all do. There's nothing we can do about it. You'll be rich one day, have faith in yourself and work hard.

i have the solution for you..stop watching tv going to the movies and just read a book, let other people enjoy watching "celebrities", after all we need to dream and that's why we tend to watch tv and movies would'nt the world be boring without?

People (the general public) are the reason (some) celebrities are overpaid, overrated and generally stuck on themselves.
