i had doubts about being hacked.. so i deleted my windows folder from the ms-dos application.. and then deleted all ms-dos files as well.. then i used a start up disk and installed a new windows on it.. and then installed norotn and zone alarm..

did this cure the problem of being hacked.. or would i better format my whole partition??

Seems like like pretty drastic steps to avoid being 'hacked' when a decent firewall (you mentioned Zone Alarm and that's fine) a decent Anti-virus Like AVG or NOD32 and anti spyware like Spybot Search and Destroy and AdAware. All these are available free from the net. Ask advice 'BEFORE' you do something like that in future. Good luck!

Norton and Zone alarm are antivirus programs. If you have the security suite, then it includes a firewall that will aid in the security in your computer. The only way you can get hacked is if you allow programs to access your computer. Just be careful of what you download into your computer and make sure you set your firewall so that you are in control of what programs you want in your computer. Depending on your OS, most Windows platforms has a security feature that helps in antihacking but if you want added security, you might want to get a Security Suite and anti adware/spyware/trojan software as well.

formatting your computer / repartitioning your drive these things have no ifluence on you being hacked.

are you trying to save your computer from being hacked? then don't download spyware or hang around on dodgey sites.

Zone alarm firewall should help - install Ewido & Spybot to keep you safe from spyware.

yea... probably 90% risk threat is over... but norton and Zonealarm are very good defenders... how di you got infected??? anywz... try black ice instead of Zonealarm and Ewido ( it's not instead of Norton ) ... you Won't get hacked again!

- -> black is very good... all the trojans and applications or any Executable file before running will come to your desktop...... you need to choose to let it run or terminate, so even virus will come to your desktop before it runs it's malicious code... and Ewido will make sure if it's trojan....
