I know some don't ever go away, but a majority do. Just curious, on an average, how long it takes them to fade. (My daughter is Guatemalan/Hispanic).

For those who are answering without a clue - Mongolian Spots are birthmarks located at the base of the spine and on the bottom that look like bruises. These are found on dark skinned babies (mine's Asian).
My son's Mongolian Spots have faded a little bit - he's two. My husband said his were completely gone when he was about 8 years old. How old is your daughter? Is you pediatrician aware of Mongolian spots and what they look like? I read that some pedis and daycare providers who are not accustomed to them will mistake them for abuse. Make sure her doctor documents them.

My son's marks were pretty big covered his whole butt and most of his back. So it took a little longer for them to fade, about 2 years old is when I didn't notice them as much.

He's currently 4 and still has discoloration

If I remember right it I think the average age was a year

HI, my daughter is 3 months old, she is cape verdean with a twist of puerto rican & italian. she has mongolian spots on her butt lower back, they are not too dark, but i have noticed they started fading a month ago. dont worry they should lighten up a bit. how old is your daughter? where are the spots located? might factor in to how long it takes to lighten.

My youngest daughter still has some and she will be 3 in October. My oldest didn't have as many and she was lighter than her sister. I guess it all depends on the racial mix and the pigmentation of their skin...
