I know sometimes they are black,but otherwise they are always the color red.

Price.
It's just one of the two colors that is used in the rubber industry the most. When you buy a plunger you want a cheap one, you don't really worry, "Will this go with my decor?" The colors that are used the most are the ones that will be the cheapest for the company making the plungers.

Not sure, but if u notice alot of rubber things that are not painted are red or black, my guess is that it comes like that from the factory and the plunger companies dont wanna spend pointless money on paint for rubber

Mine is black. These two colors were decided on by the Plunger Color Commission (PCC).

ha ha ha - good question- the first one made was one half a Red hollow ball, nailed to the end of a Closet rod- the tradition followed.

Well I don't know what your talking about. all the ones I have ever seen have been brown.
If you don't like the red paint it pretty!
