Yes. Why is it even a question?!

A lot of it is in *how* you ask the question... If instead of the above, you were to ask:

Should babies be starved?
Should women be forcibly kept locked in their homes?
Should meals be eaten in the bathroom?

You'd probably find that most people really *do* believe in nursing in public...but don't even necessarily know it themselves.

As for all the comments that women "have to be discreet"...what a crock!! Why should a baby have to have her/his head covered to eat lunch? Would *you* eat with your head covered if seeing you eat was offending someone else? The *only* time someone's head is covered in public is when they are *dead*!! Why would we want to treat a young baby as if it is a dead body? That is absolutely disgusting!!

YES! Thats what they are there for.Its crazy how people have a fit or are disgusted if they see a nursing mom in public but could care less if they see some woman with a tiny shirt with cleavage spilling all out,you actually show off less breast when nursing,Most women are subtle as they can be but even if they dont want to use a blanket its there right.Trying to latch a newborn on is not easy and trying to nurse a 10 month old isnt either so a blanket can be a huge pain in the ***.Our country is moving backwards, hundreds of years ago women nursed there child no matter who was there, men woman, child now we are made to feel embarrased or second class.I dont like using public bathrooms so why would i want to feed my baby in a stinky dirty cesspool and eventhough public nursing rooms are a good idea,if my baby is crying out in hunger and im half way across the mall im not going to have him wait im going to park it on a bench, take out my breast and feed my baby and if that bothers someone than o well i guess you have to deal with it....civil rights baby...there great.

Yes, its a given right to breast feed in public... however there are many ppl that may find it offensive or just be uncomfortable around it. More shopping centers and malls should provide "mommy rooms" which have designated areas for nursing. This will give the mother and child some private time and also a bit more quiet than you'd get if you were on the train. But think about this, you have a 3 month old baby thats hungry and you bottle feed them... you wouldnt think twice about pulling a bottle out at McDonalds while your 6 year old eats their happy meal. Breastfeeding mothers should have the same rights.

:)

Of course! Are you allowed to eat a hamburger in public? It's the same thing. Everyone gets upset when a mother is breast feeding her baby...it's the best way to feed your baby and everyone should just get over it. No one minds when the mom whips out a bottle and starts to feed but heaven forbid she covers herself and breast feeds her baby. Next time I see some guy eating a hamburger in public I'm going to give him a nasty look and talk about him.

Breastfeeding is a natural process. You know? If the baby is hungry and is crying in public, that might be the only way to soothe the baby. Also, I agree that as long as the mother covers the breast while she is feeding the baby then I don't see any harm or offense to other people.

This should not even be an issue...I breastfeed my baby when and where he wants. I am discreet, but by no means am I going to cover my baby's head while he is eating. I have never noticed anyone staring or being rude while I am breastfeeding in public, which I've done dozens of times. Some people may glance, but then look away when they realize what's going on. Maybe people are more open and less jerky here in Southern CA.

Yes, what is wrong with it. Woman have been nursing their kids for 1,000's of years. What in the world do you think your breasts are for???? If the child needs to be fed then feed them. It shouldn't matter where you are. As long as your whole breast isn't showing it shouldn't matter. Why are people so uptight about it?? You never hear anyone complain about some one bottle feeding their child.
If you can't breastfed your child in public then you shouldn't be allowed to bottlefeed your child in public.

Yes, I think they should. Why do so many people view breasts as sexual objects, and not as a food source for their children? The latter is, after all, the breasts' intended purpose.

If a lactating woman exposes her breast(s) and was walking around "airing" them out, then that would be just plain weird. I've never seen this though, and doubt I ever will.

I also think it's horribly wrong to ask a woman to go to the restroom to feed her baby. I don't eat my dinner while sitting on the toilet...why should babies?

I never had an issue with breastfeeding in public. Why should I be ashamed that I'm giving my child what she needs most? I just respected myself and my husband enough to cover myself while doing it, no free peep shows. My sister in law decided against breastfeeding because she didn't want to feed in public and felt that she'd never be able to leave the house. There's no reason you can't be discreet about it!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is so unnatural about feeding a baby the way God meant us to do it? Why is it so gross? Why not in public?
Most people I have seen breastfeeding were so discreet that I wouldn't have know it if I was a stranger walking by.
But, discreet or not, I chose to breastfeed my child, therefore, my child has the right to eat when he is hungry. If that happens to be in the middle of a mall, so be it. The people who give me dirty looks would be the same ones who would be saying 'Will you feed that da**ed kid!' while I'm looking for a private spot and he's screaming.
