Wasn't it to gain freedom from unjust laws and taxes? If so why is it that we now have so many laws on several levels. Federal, state, county, city, and town laws?In which we as citizens are supposed to know every one of them as they say ignorance to law is no excuse. And everything we do is taxed? Clothes, property, school, food ,gas ect.

No, Columbus came to America by mistake. He died poor and drunk thinking he had found a shortcut to India. The pilgrims came here for freedom of religion. All that about taxation comes much later from the mid 18th century American colonists

Rights have everything to do with how you treat your neighbor. You don't have the right to endanger lives by speeding in residential zone, so there is a law. Every law is essentially just another rule to prevent abuse between two or more people. So, there are a lot of laws. Nobody can know them all. However, there is plenty of slack for unintentional harm by the the court system and degrees of punishment (though it is not perfect it is not unreasonably so).
An interesting note on law, I learned from reading a book called "The 100 Most Influential People in History". It seems Queen Isabella, who funded Columbus (your historical faux pas noted) instilled a code of laws that essentially come from the idea that "You may not do anything that is not expressly approved". The legal systems of much of Latin America remains under this type of code. The Napoleonic Code and others running through the French and English legal systems express a theme of "You may do anything except that which is expressly forbidden". It makes for a very different approach to the safety and welfare of the community of people whether a nation or a town. Town laws, county laws, state laws, federal laws. They all have to do with maintaining order so people can go about their lives with minimum economic or physical or social harm from others.

Nobody came to America to avoid taxes. In fact, the first American colonies were run by corporations which closely controled what people could buy, from whom and at what price.

During the American Revolution, it was often said that we were fighting for freedom from taxation without representation. People were angered that we were being taxed by a foreign country (England), for that country's purposes and without ever being allowed to express our own opinions on the subject to the English government.

We are taxed today but with representation. Officials elected by the people and re-elected every few years make policy for us. If we don't like it, all we have to do is elect people who will lower taxes.

Actually, that's what we did. Bush and the Republican congress lowered taxes almost across the board (but mostly for the megal-rich and corporations). This led to the largest budget deficits in US history and a drastic reduction in government services.

So, in conclusion, I don't know what you're complaining about.

Columbus was the first immigrant to America. He wanted to find a trade route to India. Commerce remains the reason for the discovery of America and the source of its affluence.
