Anyone thinking Thomas Jefferson was the best President isn't very familiar with American history nor politics.

Jefferson could potentially be the father of all wars America is involved with...he created the Navy...and though he was touted as being a man against taxing poor people....he is the man that created taxing the rich for any reason possible.

He is one of our founding fathers and his name is on the declaration of independance...but he fought rigidly against government and government policies.

He is the man credited for the Louisiana Purchase...which is nearly laughable when he could simply have taken Louisiana by force and acquired it for free.

He is the man responsible for confusion in politics...creating the Republican Party...which is todays Democratic Party.

The difference between the 3rd President of the US and the others is that Jefferson was in the right place to complete the process of our Nation's birth...that doesn't make him the best...anyone else sitting in that chair would have the same accomplishments in the end.

If you really want to know about Jefferson, rather than ask a board and get a 2-3 paragraph response, read a book about him. I'd recommend Adams vs. Jefferson. Great book on the election of 1800.

He was a lot more of a intellectual than lot of the later presidents and very cultured. I don't know that it made him a better president, but he was comfortable with European upper-crust folks and the best-educated people of the day. He was no frontier rube, let me put it that way.
