Yes definitely...
I have made friends with a young man that lives about an 8 hour drive from where we are...He and his wife came to visit us for a weekend once...and we had a great time together...My husband and I made a return visit to them last feb...a lovely experience as they showed us around the city they live in, and then we went for a bite to eat.
I also have a friend in Kansas, I've never seen her but we share family photos, experiences, etc...
Internet is a wonderful thing!
I have also been able to recuperate old childhood friends through internet...and have even ended up in tears of happiness one evening when we put the webcam on and a friend I hadn't seen in 36 years suddenly came on screen smiling at me and in tears herself!

No. because if you talk to someone on the internet you hope that everything that happens between you is genuine but there is no way to tell whether or not the other person is being honest.
for all you know the other person could be an imposter, faking an identity.
and its dangerous to ever meet someone you met over the internet in person so it's hard to confirm what you know about the other person.
Not to mention, making friends over the internet is kind of creepy. Why can't you just make friends in your town?

there are people who fall in love and get married thanks to their online communication...it's definitely possible i think, but it's much harder than in real life because there's no physical contact involved. you can't even shake hands with the other person. this makes the relationship a lot more loose and rather artificial. but if you are able to meet up with the person you're talking to (and he or she doesn't turn out to be a schyzoid) it could turn out to be a genuine friendship.

Well I think so. But hey if they aren't real friends at least you can get them out of your house when you turn the computer off and you never have to try and pry them off your couch or try and stop them from eating all your food and hijacking your TV remote.

Yes, it is. But you have to have standards and live up to them, as well as applying them to the people you meet. And you and your contact need both to be very open and honest with each other, in order to make it work.

yes, it's possible. Spend more time chatting, along the way you can observe more and more until you find out that he/she is sincere.
