Some people do drugs or just do not work. Most of these people do not have good minds. It is unnecessary.

Having a home in any nation requires resources. Resource might be in different forms, it could be skills and materials to actually build the home yourself or resources like money to buy or rent a home that someone else built.

Simply put, some people have a lot of problems getting those resources and there are many reasons. Most homeless people do not have steady employment or none at all. They cannot earn enough money to keep a home. So the question now is "what prevents homeless people from having the resources to own or rent a home?"

Now we have to look at the homeless people themselves and see if there are any patterns amongst them that might suggest why at least some of them cannot get these resources.

There are scientists (social scientists) who study these things. Most of their studies have shown that many, many homeless people are suffering from mental illness. Some studies have found that as many at 90% of homeless people in the United States are mentally ill. To make matters worse, some of these people are "self medicating" by drinking alcohol and using illegal drugs. This self medicating occurs for several reasons, but the most common are: they don't know they are mentally ill and only know they feel "more normal" when they use alcohol or drugs; they know they are mentally ill but do not have access to decent healthcare and cannot get the real medications they need; they can get the medication but choose not to take it because they don't like the side effects.

So, if someone is mentally ill and/or has a substance abuse problem, they are not likely to be able to find employment or keep a job even if they get one. Employers need people who are responsible, require little supervision, and don't act in strange or unusual ways in front of the public and co-workers. If an employee has a severe mental illness like schizophrenia or psychotic paranoia, then they may act innappropriately at work. The employee might even have a less severe problem, but it has symptoms that are also undesirable in the work place; such as blurting out profanity, feeling very anxious and over reacting to ordinary day to day situations.

I hope this answer offers some insight into your question. Of course there are other reasons why homeless people are homeless, but I certainly don't know them all.

Those are the ones for all the reasons the others answered here. What you do not see is all the working class homeless where they had a medical issue and were caught without health insurance and can't get it anymore and must wait and wait for social services if they help them at all. No housing for thousands and those housing projects are full of one race and too dangerous. The many that live in cars they drive with no insurance, caught without a job, gas at $3.00 per gallon. Those that for unforeseen reasons had their paychecks garnished and can't pay the rent, there are many of the reasons and this great America is full of them from coast to coast. Greed, need and get out of my way, I don't care but here's a check to feed the rest of the world. Do I sound bitter, nope, just the facts..Everyone says I am proud to be an American,we can't even properly care for those fellow countrymen, just because you have a nice house and paycheck, you look at those misfortunate ones as less competition for you and that's what this country has become, competitors for the almighty buck. It would be such a simple thing to trully care for ourselfs here, provide free medical for all citizens, but those high power insurance companies would disappear or loose too much profits.I am proud Mass.is insuring it's people.Look at Canada, free health insurance for all and we Americans have to cross the border to be able to afford our daily meds.Maybe one day, centuries down the road, someone will be asked, as a nation what was Americas greatest failure. The answer would be, it's centuries of overlooking it's own people and wasting so much money waging war and being a supercop for the world, playing polictics where big business always ruled. Oh this has nothing in particular to do with the party in office, but all of them. Good question.

Most of the people in the US that don't have homes have made some very bad choices in life. They either chose to drop out of school or started doing drugs or drinking too much, there are many different reasons people could become homeless. For some it may even be just a temporary, unexpected set back in their lives. Like losing a job, the working class people in the US have a very hard life to live and some stiff competition for jobs.

Because even in a rich country like the US, there is a balance between the super rich and the super poor. You have to have a certain amount of resources or income to be able to purchase even the most rudimentary or homes and the land to put it on. This means you need a trust fund or you have to work for income. Many transients and homeless choose not to work and have no income, and some of them are mentally ill.

This is true. America is very poverty stricken in places. Homelessness is not uncommon. At the moment I am homeless. My mom lost her house. I don't live on the streets like a typical homeless person but I have family. Its difficult to answer this questions but in neighborhoods like mines you have lots of low income uneducated people, this is why. The government makes it very hard to survive. I have a degree, a low paying job and no home?????

USA is the only country where that happens. They are homeless for various reasons. Losing jobs doing drugs or gambling to name a few. There are so many reasons.

their lives take a wrong turn sometimes, that they dont have things including a house. but he was showing you in songs that material things dont make a person. its what you are on the inside. and he had happiness for him being just alive.
sometimes, the people on the streets make the wrong choices and dont know how to help themselves.
