i went to a sustainable living project in spain, and i gave up running water, therefore showers, hot water and running toilets.
and you know something it was not too bad. i washed in a river and we collected water from a local village to drink and used compost toilets (they sound gross but are not bad at all!!) so one modern convenience i would definately live without could be hot running water.
i could never live without chocolate.. its what makes it ok... if you havent got hot water then you definately need chocolate!!!!

Television, could live without that. As for not being able to live without, there isn't one really, I mean there are ones I enjoy having around for convenience and ease, but there isn't one I couldn't live without. The one I'd miss the most I think is my pc..but I'd get used to it. After all what did humans do before modern conveniences?

My Mobile phone. I used to get by without one. Now it never rings till I am out and answering it will be embarressing. Or it rings when you are using the loo somewhere. Also my wife can ring when I am busy doing something.
Managed without it before but could I really go without it now?

I don't use television, so I guess that would be my choice for giving up.
I would probably find it very hard to live without either running water (including sewage) or printed books.

Music, books and internet are my essentials... together with anything that helps with hygiene like toilets and showers... But I could live without mobile, TV, car, etc.
