Funny, a charity is aiming to raise £1m for a new life-saving hospital machinery so to help launch they ask David Beckham or Alan Sugar or Bill Gates or someone. The Ironic thing is the public then go and do sponsored events such as cycling, marathons etc until they hit the target. BUT why couldnt the patron just turn round and say 'hey, you know what, i have lots of dosh already so here you go! Job sorted!" Simple but then why is this isnt the case? Why is it the ones without the 'lots of dosh who do most of / if not all of the work?

The eastern tsunami was a classic example! A huge football game was arranged and the proceeds were sent in aid. (more publicity for the players??) but if each if the players present sent 1week or 2week wages then there wouldnt have needed for a charity match AND it woudlnt have been excusively the job of the ones 'without lots of dosh' of raising the aid by paying for such tickets

I know there are lots of charitable celebs but do you see my point?

yeah, I see the point. They have more money than brains I guess. And too, the rich are the only ones that can afford to give up that kind of money.

Could you afford to give up YOUR entire paycheck? I know I couldn't.

Because most of them do not want to give away their money, but we look at them as role models, so doing this makes them look good. Not saying all are like that, but also, if every celebrity gave to every charity that asked then they would be broke. I do agree that they should give money, but also know that they can't be the only ones, and they can't give all the time. Of course the easy way to fix this is that no one should be paid that much money and the movies that make lots of money should send the money directly to the poor and research to cure illness.

This is a way of gaining more publicity for themselves.
