I played Lady in Orpheus Descending. I think I was too young. Anyway- We did paper the house from time to time and I gave my school friends freebies yet after the performance not one came round to see me and I had my own little dressing room. Is'nt that mean?

You have a general point, that thanking people has fallen out of practice. However - did you let them know you would appreciate a visit in your dressing room? They may not have known they could visit you there... The correct time for your friends to thank you was at the time of you giving them the freebies.

Sometimes people are intimidated to go backstage after a production. Maybe they feel they are not suppose to. Hopefully when you see them again....the "Thanks" will be there for the tickets. If not....just keep doing what you have a passion for. I do things for others because I feel good doing so...I don't feel an obligation to have a "Thanks" attached. I always find being "in the moment" during the production ...in other words you can feel if the audience is enjoying what is being presented on stage. Hearing laughter, applause, sometimes even the stillness of an audience totally taken in by what is happening on stage...that is my "thanks".... Hope this helps you....

Did you invite them back to your dressing room? Maybe they got lost? Anyway, I think you should say you were disappointed that they didn't come to congratulate you. But they're just kids and maybe didn't know the etiquette? I know I would have been very excited to meet a star and I can't imagine they wouldn't want to come around and see you.

I always say please and thank you, it's the way I've been brought up. But in today's society I don't expect it of anyone because they are all stuck up arrogant pricks (and that's being nice about it), who believe they are owed everything and have no sense of common curtsy or manners. I say bring back chivalry.

Sadly in today's world, etiquette and manners seem to have gone out the window.
