Study.
I know, you were looking for Mnemonics or some easy fix, but let me detail. One assumes that the reason you want to know is because of the importance of their impacts on the individual or chart as a whole, and by intrinsically knowing the elemental impacts of each, you won't be forced to have to remember the mnemonic and then interpret.
A small subtlety, but remember: Astrology is an intuitive discipline and not a science. You need to have that intrisic knowledge floating around in your essence in order to properly intuit.
The easiest way for me to relate to the crosses is by association.
Cardinal -The word comes from the French "cardo" meaning a hinge, that on which something turns. The cardinal directions are the north, south, east and west.
Mental trigger: They are the times when the seasons change. Aries for Spring; Cancer for Summer; Libra for Autumn; and Capricorn for Winter. They therefore are times for a new beginning.
Mnemonic: Cardinals Are Like Colors (Cancer, Aries, Libra, Capricorn)
Fixed - the word "fixed" means securely placed and fastened and implies unchanging. Stubborn. In Astrology, the fixed signs are the second, fifth, eighth and eleventh (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius). They are characterised by the keyword "stability" or firm and dependable.
Mental Trigger: Stubborn and fixed. Taurus wants to make the products of the self, sometimes material wealth, permanent and fixed. Leo wants to keep its personal power. It wants to be impressive and creative and keep this relationship with others. It makes changes so that it remains in its power state. Scorpio is fixed in terms of their emotional reactions. It feels more secure when they know what feelings other have. Aquarius wants to keep their beliefs, etc concerning humanity fixed. Aquarians seek to keep their friends.
Mnemonic: SALT (Scorpio, Aquarius, Leo, Taurus) - THis is easy enough that all you have to remember is association of 'Fixed' with 'Salt'. Once you've salted something, it's fixed.
Mutable: The word "mutable" means "subject to change". The mutable signs are the third, sixth, ninth and twelfth (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces). The keyword for these is "adaptability".
Mental Triggers: Gemini is a sign of the air and therefore is concerned with communication, words and the mind. Geminis will adapt themselves to their environment and therefore not cause things to persist. Virgo is critical and analytical. In this way, Virgo brings to an end something which was previously believed. Sagittarius is the ninth sign. It is a sign of fire. While it is a seeker of knowledge, its keyphrase is "I know". Sagittarius brings about the end of ignorance by discovering the truth, according to Sagittarius so that it seeks final knowledge (the end of knowledge). Pisces brings about the end of emotions through dissolving into the oneness of all things
Mnemonic: VGSP - Very Good Silent Partners. This is not the best mnemonic because it really does nothing to describe the traits.however - mutable parses as something you can silence, so it might make it easier to remember.
Recap:
Cardinals Are Like Colors (Cancer, Aries, Libra, Capricorn)
Fixed is SALT (Scorpio, Aquarius, Leo, Taurus)
Mutable is a Very Good Silent Partner (Virgo, Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces).
Hopefully this, or any combination thereof, will help.
Celestially,

I just memorize them.
Signs 1, 4, 7, and 10 in a flat chart are Cardinal or angular.
Signs 2, 5, 8, and 11 in a flat chart are Fixed
Signs 3, 6, 9 and 12 in a flat chart are Mutable.
Once you delineate many charts you'll have it memorized.
Good luck!
