The Edinburgh Festival!

Lots of music at the Princes Street Gardens. The Jazz Festival usually does a Mardis Gras sort of thing on the streets from the Grassmarket. Also some outdoor shows and street theatre.

The Royal Botanics Garden is always a good visit.

Or if you prefer to be indoors for a bit, go and see few plays/comedy/dance/musicals at the Fringe, or catch some good flicks a the Film Festival.

Not to mention the Fireworks Orchestra in late August as a finale.

It's all happening here in Edinburgh!

If you just want to step a few miles outside the UK I would thoroughly recommend the fleadh ceol na H'eirann in Letterkenny Co Donegal held on the last weekend of August. Three days (more sometimes) of full on irish Traditional music, sessions all day, mad drinking and 100,000 boozers all in a small town.

County fairs and the town and county show - always good - lots of different traders and stalls, displays on and some fair ground rides. Brilliant days out.

Am going to the one at Belvoir castle this sunday there will be herding, agility, sheepdog, gundog and coursing displays as well as falcons, and lots and lots of different produce and stalls. Always a good day out and suitable for children.

it's expensive because all the day tickets have gone, but go to Bestival at the end of the summer for a weekend of cool people and even colder music :)
