More than straight up action scenes, it is a character driven story. Who is doing what to whom and who is going to rise up and take over. Don't get me wrong there are a few good shot up sequences, but that's not the majority of the movie. All that said, it is AMAZING!! It deserves the reviews for the plotting, the backstabbing, the acting, the set-up's, it's all fan-freaking-tastic ;-)

I've seen both The Godfather and Godfather II at least a dozen times each; Godfather III I've only seen once. The first two in the trilogy I feel are much better than the last. I particularly like Gangster films, so if you like those kind of films I think you'll really enjoy it. Before I buy any DVD, I rent it first to be sure I like it. I'd recommend the same here. Other good gangster films are Miller's Crossing, Scarface (Al Pacino), and Road to Perdition.
Also, since you mention that you really like action scenes... try renting The Transporter and Transporter II... both are full of action, and I actually thought the second Transporter film was better than the first.

Action scenes - YES
Kick*** scenes - Literally YES
I think you should be over 20 to truly appreciate the trilogy. It's dark (literally). You can mix up the characters. But if you take the time, it's a rewarding experience. The story-telling is wonderful.
Great quotes though.

there are better movies.
Why not get a trilogy box of the matrix. Star Wars, Lord of the Rings or other more recent movies?

I'd go as far to say it's the definitive movie about the mafia - 1& 2 are tops in authenticity. If you want "action-packed" go for others.

You've actually just answered your question...
Some movies that others think are top notch - don't appeal to you. Congratulations, you are your own person. :) Because of that though - it'll be mighty tough for anyone to tell you whether or not you'll like this one - they can only tell you whether they liked it.

Please, buy it. It is a very good movie about ...
the family business,
"that does not exist" in the clean new world of America...
The first part with good old Marlon Brando
is the best .. simply the best.
The rest is a kind of B.B.Q.... with big
guns, beautiful ladies, good, big old cars and so on ....
