Ficus are tropical trees that tend to root vary easily. They are known for what are called aerial roots - roots that grow out of the top ofthe trunk and reach to the ground. All they need for this is high humidity.

So rooting cuttings is fairly easy when compared to otehr trees.

There are two ways of doing this with ficus. I would suggest trying both to see which gives YOU the best results.

The first is place the cutting un spagnum peat moss that is kept constantly damn unti roots form, then transplant to soil. Using a rooting horomone will increase the chances of rooting, you can et that at any garden center or Home Depot or Lowes.

The second way is to just place the branch in a cup of water and leave it there until roots form. Then transplant into soil. You should still use rooting horomone, but must use the liquid.

i tend to use the moss mwethod with about a 50% success rate with my Willow leaf ficus but the water method works too.

Also, do not use any types of plant foods as the cutting is unable to absorb the chemicals effectively and will only get burned.

From a ficus care page:

"One of the easiest plant to root from cuttings; although the specifics for maximum success vary with species, it's always worth sticking them into soil for the heck of it, unless you're already overrun with baby Ficus! My success rate, doing nothing special except an initial dose of Superthirve, is at least 80%. Very large diameter cuttings of Ficus can be successfully rooted. Air-layering is also quite easy. Ficus can be grown from seed, but require heat and humidity, and easily succumb to mold. I recommend growing from seed only if you desire a rare Ficus that can't be purchased easily. "

Check the link below for additional information. Seems these are great to make bonsai from -- lucky you!
