The majority of Americans do not agree with the actions of our politicians. I think it's sad that so few people can ruin so many lives, and yet feel unaccountable. Do non-Americans recognize the distinction between a country's citizens and it's government?

I totally understand that the American government doesn't reflect all of its citizens. I'm not impressed with my own government and I'd hate people to think I have the same views and opinions as they do.

Every country has got the same problem that its governments do not always reflect all their citizens views.

But the poiliticians if they dont do what the ppl like will not get re elected, hence the politicians see that they satisfy the majority of the ppl in the country even if its wrong morally.

And the current US government is having a president who was re elected so that means his actions are very much approved by the general public and he has got majorities backin in what he does.
So the citizens cannot totally wash thier hands sayin its the politicians.
If its a dictatorship i could agree to that but here we are talkin abt a democracy(said to be a democracy)
Its the ppls rule thru elected representatives representing their ideas.

You know what screwed it up for us? The second term. Bush didn't win the popular vote in the first term so we kinda had an excuse. Then 9/11 happened and people were afraid to make any sudden changes in government. Plus they put him up against this really pathetic opponent that nobody liked. Still many people voted for him just because they hated Bush so bad. Nobody said I am voting for John Kerry they just said I am voting against Bush. Most Americans don't want to be associated with any of them so they don't vote at all. We could have voted for some one else and they would have been no different probably and we would not only look stupid and asinine but weak and indecisive as well. Yes, sometimes it sucks to be American.

All super firms supply to political applicants, oftentimes the two facets if it is no longer sparkling who will win. featuring banks and different financial centers. of direction there is a few conflict--that's what has got here approximately with the aid of the years on the Hill. in spite of the shown fact that it is as plenty Republican (surely many times extra Republican) as Democrat. the full equipment is suspect, however the present challenge isn't any worse different than it includes additional funds. The Congress and US taxpayers have been advised with the aid of Bush's group that the full economy could crash without a bailout of the best banks. Mmm, sound slightly like the "evidence" to invade Iraq?

I read this statement in one of the other answers.

"Politicians do not reflect the true sentiments of its people. Thus, all Americans are not like Bush and Al Gore. "

Now let me ask you something. Politicians are suppose to work for you. You elect them to represent you in government. How many of you send letters, email, or call your politicians that represent you in state, local and federal government? I'll bet if they could find out that 90% of you never email your congressment or state represenatives. Let alone the president. How can politicians represent a silent majority of our country that never voices it's opinion, never takes an active roll in government and a lot of them that never vote. Only way the politicians could find out is go to your job, bar, or sporting venue and grill you on what you would like to see. Come on America time to wake up and become involved in your country. Do you part to make this work. Vote for people that will work for you and keep on them. Tell them what you want and how you think it should be done.

I know persons from 39 countries and most know that this gov't doesn't reflect the true American feelings. But the reason the gov't doesn't reflect most views of Americans is because most Americans don't vote. The was an election in South Carolina a few weeks ago. 92% of the voters didn't vote.
