The Money Pit is a pit in Oak Island, Nova Scotia. It is rumoured to contain something valuable. However, years of digging it have proven futile.

So, why are people still so interested in it? Should they have called off the excavation? Aren't thery wasting their time?

As soon as I saw this title i knew exactly what it was about. I've read a book about the pit itself and how it is designed and whatnot. The big thing behind it is.

1. Whom could have constructed something of this size and complexity.
2. Why they would do so much to hide it.

The pit itself is of unknown depth, but every ten feet there is a flagstone with a certain symbol on it i forget what it is but there is a symbol. At a very far depth water continues to rush in and it was thought that is was a natural stream but it is a man made structure that drew water in from the ocean to flood it. That's about all i know of the inner workings of it but it is rumored to contain many things from Aztec gold to the Holy Grail.

I think I saw a History Channel show about the Money Pit.

Why should they stop the excavation? Do you know someplace better for them to dig? I mean, it's called the Money Pit--a money pit is something you throw money into but doesn't provide any return. So the name works on a couple of levels.

Maybe they tried excavating in Egypt, but it was too hot and sandy.

It is the thrill of finding the treasure. Yes it is very real and the problem came up when they triggered one of the traps that caused it to be flooded. The pirates that constructed it were very smart. The level at which they have dug to now is below the level of water of the near by bay. Until they find the area where the water comes in from they cannot go any farther. If given enough time and technological advances they should be able to reach it in about 10 years or so.

People will always search for treasure. It is their sense of adventure. Some call it a hobby. But if there is ever any treasure to be found, anywhere in the world, there will always be someone looking for it.

Sometimes they find it, sometimes they don't.

The answer to your first question is - because it has to do with the "paranormal", "supernatural", "the - unknown" and such - and many people are drawn to that.

The answer to your next two questions is - it depends if they find anything or not - right?
