what is the name of this movie?

it is a older movie about a orphaned boy who ends up in a small town and pretends to be deaf, and he stays in a storeroom and works for the owner and for years he listens to all the people and at the end he tells everyone what he's heard. His Mother left him, I think at a bus stop or he got left on the bus. it's driving me crazy!

i think it's "what the deaf man heard" but have you seen the one where the boy gets lost in australia and meets an old man? that one's driving ME crazy!
