I appear to have the attention span of a midge! I cannot seem to digest information by reading it. If I listen to it or watch it it sinks in much more easily. Does anyone know any genuine techniques to improve this, which would help me absorb information more efficiently?

Take notes, writing will help you retain the information better. After you take notes, speak aloud. You only retain so much information after reading, but if you write about it, and talk about it as well you will greatly increase the percentage of information you'll remember.
