I LOVE IT...can't really explain why it's just sexy lol that's just it. It brings a huge grin to my face thinking about a guy with an english accent...if I have a choice I wouldn't mind marrying a man with an english accent...well I'd obviously would have to like the rest of the package as well...but it would be a bonus lol. English guys are usually bright and rather good looking as well...not that american guys or guys in general can't be good looking (I maybe digging myself a hole here lol) but like I said the accent is just a reaaaalllly reaaaally nice added bonus.

To me it's just a huge turn on aside from personality and intelligence. Like I said I just love it!

I was talking to an American girl recently and she said it was because she felt American accents were too harsh and too loud and that they're just all around her all the time so they're nothing special to her.
British accents on the other hand are a little rarer over there, they obviously sound different and I guess are associated with TV or film because generally that's the only place they would hear a British accent, unless they actually know someone from the UK.

P.S

Can I ask whereabouts you went in the U.S and if you can recommend any bars? I'm British and I'm very tempted to go over there for this reason.

I hate answers like "psychoticDND" gave you. Grammar has little to do with it. I'm American living in England.
I too was led to believe that all English spoke in a "Shakespearean verse". The media of course is responsible for this. It is entirely not true. I have met some English people that I could not understand a word coming out of their mouth. I'm always being told from people here, that I talk very proper......while YES we thought it was the other way around. It is a desirable sound for American ladies because 1. its different but still English 2. it is associated to film stars...as mentioned above.

Probably because it is sexy. After all... and I might be revealing my age by saying this... look who we associate it with:

Sean Connery*
Cary Grant
Colin Firth
Anthony Hopkins
Kenneth Branaugh
Patrick Stewart
Pierce Brosnan
Ewan McGregor
Daniel Craig
Clive Owen
Hugh Grant
Alec Quinness
Liam Neeson
Rupert Everette
Roger Moore
Timothy Dalton
Jon Voight

*Also keep in mind that many Americans cannot distinguish between accents from the British Isles... or between Commonwealth accents.

Do you blame us for hoping that any man with such a sexy voice is as accomplished as 007? As debonair as Cary Grant? As lethally charming as Ewan McGregor?

Not sure, each to their own. I am born in Scotland but don't have the accent as I speak just with a London accent yet I looooooooove the Irish accent in some men and it does make me go all funny from time to time yet I am a born Scot and get nothing out of a man with a Scottish accent ??????

Because they assume we all speak the queen's English. They've probably never heard a Geordie, Scouser, Brummie or anyone from Bolton, Derby, Leeds, Norfolk, Plymouth, in fact anyone with a regional accent, very few of which are remotely sexy.

It's strange that accents can be sexy, like when I think about those South American girls....Mexicans, Columbians.....Brazilians...... *sigh*

Good question. My feeling on it is this....Women like to feel sophisticated. The British are immediately associated in this country for having wealthy roots (due to the Royal Family), but even if you're middle-class Welsh or whatnot I think girls in our country love the accent because it is like a novelty, sort of like a James Bond thing. I find it comparable to men, like myself, always wanting to date an older woman. That has the whole "Mrs. Robinson" thing attached to it (from The Graduate, starring Dustin Hoffman).

And, like the saying goes, with money comes power. Women desire the feeling of stability and if you're a good looking guy to boot, there's your answer.

because any accent turns on a girl: italian, french, austrailian, finnish, scottish but what turns me on to british accents more is that knowing that they come from this beautiful place that has soo much depth and i view british people as very hopeless romantics that are extremely..really any girl sees guys that come from other countries (besides middle east and chinese:only european and australian) they see as sweet and can make you laugh and treat you like a goddess and not like fuckin psycho crazy guys from america..lol not all americans i love american skaters and punks
