As a server administrator or should I say systems administrator, you're expected to do the ff:

- Ensure that the server is up and available at all times
- User Management
- Ensure that storage capacity is at acceptable levels
- Ensure that the server is secure at all times
- Performance Monitoring and Fine Tuning
- Capacity Planning
- Backup/Archiving
- Create Disaster Recovery Plan

It depends on what flavor of unix you're using. In reality, unix is all but dead...there are BSD, Linux, and OSX, which all sprand up from unix, but unix isn't used anymore (to the best of my knowledge). Generally speaking, the daily tasks involved in unix based administration are the same as any server administration (backups, updates, etc). The only difference is the way those tasks are accomplished. Without more specifics as to what flavor of unix you are talking about administering, then I can't really provide any detailed descriptions. All use different tools to accomplish the same thing.
