Lets face it, if they weren't forced, most of them wouldn't go. Sure, they'd enjoy it, and then one day they'd be all grown up, unable to read or write. Illiterate, innumerate, happy young people, with no hope of employment. The world would end up with no doctors, no engineers, no scientists... nobody would have the skills! The human brain learns best at a young age - so learning later in life is always much harder.
Seems like if you put all this together there's only one logical conclusion - mandatory education through youth.

For Singapore, it is a necessity for all children to attend school. This is because the government makes it a point that education is compulsory for every individual in Singapore.
For this question, I feel that there are two sides to it. On one hand, we are making it compulsory for education and on the another hand, if you were to force children to study, it will be defeating the purpose.
In my opinion, I feel that education is part and parcel of life. For it is through education, you will benefit things that sometimes you do not see in the outside world. Knowledge is indeed sometimes that is without a boundary. You can take it all you want or you can refuse all you want. For children, being young at heart and at soul, they do not understand the need to study until they start to mature and understand how it is crucial to have some knowledge within them. Definitely, if you let a kid to study on his/her own, he/she will love it more and hence enjoy it more.
Sometimes forcing can be a necessity. I do not mean by holding a cane on the hand and forcing a kid to study BUT I mean by giving them some pressure and not too much. Let them feel how difficult it may be if they do not study much.
In conclusion to your question, it depends on the parents and the kids themselves. For the parents, do you hope your kids to follow your path? or you want them to be wanderers? For the kids, do you think with force you can study? or you prefer to go without it? do you also wish to talk it out with your parents and discuss a plan? =)

That's like saying we shouldn't force them to take regular meals, we shouldn't force them to take baths, we shouldn't force them to eat veggies, we shouldn't force them to apologize someone they were rude to.
Kids don't necessarily know what's best for them, that's why adults are suppose to guide them, even if it's by "forcing" them to do something they don't want to.
Anyway, even if you don't give them a choice about going to school, there are other ways to make them enjoy it. I watched BBC's "Child of Our Time", and they said one important factor is (surprisingly) to help them look good, so that they become more popular with other kids. Good social life = good work life, apparently.
Also, talking to your child more, about everything (not just school) will help them improve in their studies, because they will feel more inclined to share about school stuff this way, and if they feel you are engaged, they will tend to do better. If you just ask about school on the other hand, they tend to feel shy and reticent.

I think they probably would enjoy it more...but then again they wouldn't meet all the cool people that they do. Also they probably wouldn't be as bright than if they had gone to school. I say it's good that children go to school...but that's just my personal opinion. =)

they are forced to go to school to get smarts, learn responsability, make friends, become social and not grow into a shy shell for life, etc
school might suck but it is a neccessary evil. if i wasn't forced to go to school, i wouldn't have gone. it is the **** that happends at school that makes ppl not wanna go, not because they are forced to go.

Most children aren't smart enough to choose to be educated.
That's why they're called children.

Ever thing that's good for you might not always be the most enjoyable. Simply, most of them would not go.
