If your area is real slopey you may want to consider a raised pond--
These are very pretty and help solve some slope problems--You will need to have some dirt hauled in ---
The raised ponds are fairly easy to research---and height makes it easier to enjoy your pond--you can easily sit by it to work in it and admire it!
Good Luck!

I dug my pond on a hill- The water levels so you don't have to worry about it running over- The water level will simply not be as high on the steep side so you'll need more stone or cover for the liner. I used water plants.

The water will seek its own level, but with a hard Rain it will fill to overflow and come out the low side- one thing you can do, its cut the slope back as far as you can from the pond, and then slope the cut back away from the pond. I did this for a Swimming pool.

dig the hole the size you want it ,but on the upper side make it deeper to account for the slope of the hill.
