They give you something to do with your fingers.
You can flick them.
You can rub them on the windows.
You can stick them on your parents brand-new 300C leather seats.
You can hide them under the toilet seat to give your parents something to clean every Sunday...The possibilities are endless. God bless boogers.

congealed snot is actually a useful part of the immune system. The mucous that boogers are made of actually trap dust and bacteria. Once the bacteria, dust etc get trapped in the booger it can be expelled more easily from the body or at least protected from the more sensitive parts of the body. Presumably the digestive system is able to digest the booger more easily rendering any bacteria harmless.
Did you know that the technical term for a booger is a rhinolith?

Boogers are actually viruses and dirt that the mucus in your nose collects and prevents them from entering your lungs.

they trap foreign particles that are passing through your nose ... dirt, and other things, can get really small so winds can blow it around.. if something like this gets in your nose, your boogers form around them and trap them. then your 5 year old eats them.

the mucus helps capture tiny particles of dust, so it doesn't go into your lungs.
