One aspect of our consciousness tends outwards and another is inclined inwards.The direct knowledge of the self put an end to all the problems which the mind of man has been facing throughout history.Once mind gets submerged into the soul, the problem ceased to exist and therefore, the real and lasting solution lie in a spiritual discipline of the entire self of man.
