Beyond the normal average to great benefits many companies provide, as a worker, what type of benefits would you appriciate the most? Gym membership, once a month spa treatment, comedy night etc.

If you really wanted to make your employees feel appriciated, how would you reward them beyond bonuses, compliments or promotions?

The best employers I ever had went out of their way to allow us to have lives. That meant flexible work schedules to allow for kids, travel time, spousal schedules, etc. We stayed and worked for less than we would have other places because we were treated as valued contributors to the team and we gave more than was ever expected of us because we were grateful and knew what a gift their flexibility was.

For myself, GOOD medical and dental benefits are the most important. I am tired of companies trying to cut costs and cutting the benefits down to the bare bones. For example, the insurance where my husband works covers only one type of birth control pill, and does not even provide coverage for most normal asthma medications.

On-site daycare or networking with daycares in the area so that employees can get some kind of discount.

In my experience, when you say you promote from within, actually DO IT. Employees do not like to feel like droids... that would make them feel that they actually have some kind of future with that company.

Gym or health club membership is good - and might reduce sick days

Flex time is great - not knew, but really useful and appreciated.

Job sharing is cool. Again, not new, but lots of people offer it.

CHILD CARE !!!!!!!
LIKE KINDERGARTEN ON SITE !!!!!!!

Lots of people like being able to bring their dog to work, but i worry about the people with allergies.

Of things i have seen, giving low cost, symbolic awards worked well.

My husband used to give out little Superman (logo) lapel pins to his workers when they did REALLY impressive stuff (think Super Engineer). the pins cost about 4 bucks each. but the people would wear them - it was symbolic, but cool. More decorative than an Employee of the Month plaque.

But my strongest feeling is that when a worker does a really good job that was hard and took a lot of work, it should be the worker that gets the bonus, the publicity, etc. - not that worker's supervisor. I used to see that a lot, and it still bugs me.

Paid Gym Membership. Some Clubs have a corporate memberships, regardless of the number of employees you have. I had a job that included that benefit, and there was about 14 of us who had the membership. It helped out a lot, relieved stress, and helped me lose 30 lbs!

A full gym at work including pool, and hot tub. Open before work and after work for employees.

On site day care.

Full, dental, medical, presciption plan.

Full hour lunches, half hour not long enough.

Company to buy apartments in different vacation spots available to staff to use on their vacation time.

Company cars, gas allowance.

Each employee able to purchase their own work chair that fits their body. Company to pay cost.

Company to have recreation/activity coordinator to plan outings for workers that are interesting, active and health oriented...

Roaming internet so we can work outside on nice days....

Management who have actually been trained on how to treat employees with respect.

Honest mgt... LOL! That's the biggest one along with promoting right person for the job, and internal growth opportunities.

Flex time
Vacation Bonuses
Safety equipment/ergo furniture
Zero tolerance of violence, harassment, discrimination
Domestic partnership medical/dental
Child care
On-site dry cleaning drop off/pick up
Employee to employee "on the spot" recognition (nominal value like movie tickets or gift certificates that the company funds)

Did I say honest management?

Gym memberships are great. BUT it needs to be a good gym with all gym availability so you can go near work or near home (should those two be a distance apart). On-site day care. Flexible hours and telecommuting are great benefits.

flexible hours or the ability to work from home. Of course in my job thats not possible, so gym memberships, spas are great ideas and here at the hospital night shift, we always appreciate food!! Child care and sick kid care are also great benefits.
