getting my period regular every month on a Tuesday, except this time I got my period and it was really painful, (before I went on the pill the reason to go on it was because I use to get really bad period pain, which I havent had for 10 years) I have had pain/cramps all day does this mean I have actually started to ovulate again as my docter said it could take up to a year to start ovulating?? My period still goes for 2 days and my partner and I have sex twice a week. If this question isnt to confusing is there anyone that can help me please.

I dont know how to reply to your answer so il add more, we are wanting to try for a baby but im worried as I have been on the pill for so long I may not be able to conceive but as its only been 5 months should I wait or consult a docter, as I feel I am now getting "real periods" as this is the same period pain I use to get before I went on the pill.

It sounds like you are getting back to normal. Although it is painful, if you want to have a baby, it is actually a good sign. It *can* take up to a year after using hormonal birth control to be fertile again, but maybe you are just becoming fertile earlier than that.

If you want to get pregnant, I would suggest a couple of things...first of all, take folic acid. Hormonal birth control depletes your body of folic acid, so you are probably suffering a deficiency. Second, read _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body better to increase the likelihood of conceiving as quickly as possible.

Good luck!!

A friend had the same problem, however she went to the doctors and they are able to tell you if you are ovulating or not by an ultrasound? She fell pregnant after trying once even though she was on the pill for a long period of time. It is possible but different for everyone. See the doctor for a more acurate answer.

I had the same problem, so I went on the pill. I was on it for nine years. My husband and I "winged it" for two years.....no baby. I would start buying ovulation kits to see if you actually are back to normal with your periods. Start peeing on a stick daily from the day your period ends until you surge (usually seven to nine days after your period ends). If you surge, then have sex within your 48 - 36 hour window of opportunity. This is what my OB/GYN told me. Also, if you're unsure if you are back to normal you should really see a doctor and explain this to them. It's also probably a good idea to get a pre-pregnancy exam to include a PAP smear. Good Luck!

You could ovulate immediately after going off the pill, or it could take a while for your cycle to go back to being normal.

Most women don't have pain and cramping during ovulation, though some women do feel their ovulation...

If you're trying to avoid pregnancy, make sure to use some form of birth control & don't count on feeling your ovulation - by the time you feel it, it would be too late...
