Because an act of aggression, or a disproportionate use of force by Israel cannot be criticised. The US will ensure that.
The G8 statement released recently was one that all member states agreed on. France's request for a statement fo Israel to stop using disproportionate military force was vetoed.
Imagine, you get a couple of your soldiers kidnapped and you start a 6 day aerial bombardment campaign that start with an airport and a power station.

if the EU is brought into this war, the nations that support Hizbollah (Syria, Iran) will consider it an aggressive act, and may respond with force its not a good idea.
