International business, government, and defense is an intricate web of connections, very misunderstood by the general public, which still doesn't realize that "News" is about the unusual, the stranger, the things that are NOT normal, otherwise we will have heard them a hundred times and be bored with what we see.
This is why people think priests are all child abusers even though the actual percentage of priests that abuse children is amazingly low compared to the general population (I'm not religious, just educated).
The same goes for the simplistic things you hear about why people fight wars.
The most all-encompassing answer (not very satisfying) is that our Presidents, ALL of them, both sides of the aisle, are the best informed people for making these decisions and do so, in different ways, to defend our national interests the best they can with the situation as it is.
We're like kibbitzers complaining about how badly our elected officials play checkers when it's really a chess game and we just don't understand that.
During the Suez Canal nationalization by Egypt, we actually chased our allies out of the region, Israel included. Islamic people cheered. They didn't realize that we were doing so because it was in our national interest to do so.
Even though it made our country and President look stupid and seemed to be a betrayal of our allies.
If we hadn't. China (not the Soviet Union, that wasn't doing ANYTHING but beat it's chest) would have moved into the area. They had already loaded the planes.
Sometimes we never get "the rest of the story". Know it's there. Have faith in your government but keep speaking up. We need people who act as the brakes to war, just as we need those who act as the gas pedal.
Keep speaking up. The system works.

The following reasons could be the valid ones:
1. Expenses to meet the prisoners will be less. I mean the prisoners (undergoing sentences in the great prisons are converted as soldiers) are the soldiers.
2. Lunatic asylums at every state will contribute men with gun to defense.
3. Once they enter the other man's land the Commander of the US forces will be above the existing Government.
4. The soldiers have the freedom to attack, rape and kill the innocents civilians under the pretext of suspects.
5. Women with all wices and loose character have to be kept aloof from the community.
At the end if US looses the President calls "****" and the citizens are happy as the opponent will be immediately branded as terrorist.
God Save US!

If you look at the battles which the U.S. government chooses to take on, it's almost always because it serves political ends -- keeping 'friends' in power, weakening governments with other approaches (witness the relentless attacks on Hugo Chaves, who's doing radical things like trying to prevent multinationals from taking over Venezula's infrastructure), securing a toe-hold in a region or access to oil and other resources.
Rwanda didn't have much to offer, so they did nothing. Efforts in the Sudan are only because of public pressure. And so it goes.
