There are two kind of DVD formats, DVD +R and DVD -R. Unless your DVD drive supports both, you wont be able to access it.

Well there are several reasons why your dvd-rom may not read a DVD+R. There are several DVD formats, DVD+R and DVD-R being the most popular. I have never seen a DVD-ROM that will not read either of these formats. I think the problem lies in the files on the DVD you speak of. What are the files, music, movies, data??? In order to answer your question properly we need to know what files are on the DVD (not specifically) just the type. If it is downloaded music or movie files. Then compression type becomes a factor. There are many compression types used for file transfer, and many that Windows default codecs will not recognize. You may need a codec pac in order to recognize the file type on the DVD. This is most likely your problem. Check the file extension and see if Windows supports it. If not find a codec pak that does. Good luck.

PS: The following links provide players and codec paks, that standard players usually will not support. My favorite is the VLC Player. When I ran into the problem you are experiencing I downloaded this player and all was fine.

Is the DVD given to you is DOUBLE LAYER? If it is then your DVD player on PC is not compatible. Check the drivers.
