Good question.
I go after people who are seditious. Now that is also free speech, but remember, those who have an opposing view ALSO have free speech. Free speech doesn't mean there aren't consequences, or opposing speakers that will argue with you.
For me, I oppose any name-calling of our elected leaders. I would have loved to have something like this when President Clinton was in office. I do not name-call, I do not spread unfounded rumors about them, I do not treat them as "guilty until they prove to me that they are innocent beyond a shadow of a doubt" which is exactly how President Bush and President Clinton were treated by the people who acted seditiously against them.
It may be free speech, but if you do the above, it is also sedition, legal or not. Calling it what it is is not "wanting to burn them at the stake". It is dissent against the person being seditious.
And that is also free speech.
As to why they get mad? Too often we build our identities around things that are bigger than us. Our family, our job, our religion, our nationality, our ancestry, our political party. When those things are attacked, we often mistake that as a physical attack upon ourselves psychologically and respond with the alert state (fight or flight, adrenalin/noradrenalin (epinephrine/norepinephrine), lacitate, etc., flooding the system).
We then interpret the state in view of the situation. Attack? Anger/attack back.
Makes reasoning about what is actually said kind of hard.
Your question is an attack (free speech, not seditious, a good one!) on my goals. I hope I have responded with thought and courtesy. Your question deserves it. Thank you.
I'm a human being first, an U.S.A. citizen next, and a political party after that (Democrat) (though there are a few other things thrown in there, like "daddy")!
Keep speaking up, everyone. Would you believe that although I've never met him, and tons of people really get on his case and we disagree with almost everything, Erudite and I are becoming friends (online)?
Sometimes it helps to see the person first, the argument second.
I love you guys. Glad you're all here.

Well, personally I don't like our current president, didn't like the previous one, or the one before that- Ron wasn't perfect, but at least had SOME sense of honor- just give me ONE President that has actually read the Constitution, doesn't think it's cheap toilet paper, doesn't want to destroy the bill of rights, and I'd be perfectly content- I guess since there are so many people out there that could care less about the Constitution, my wish is about as likely as frozen water running uphill and sucking all the electron flow out of the Hoover dam.

They are talking off the top of their head. They have no personal or first-hand, nformation about the President.
They only know what the media CHOOSES to put on the air.
They, therefore, cannot make an intelligent comment, because they were fed media inforamtion.
If they knew someone at the White House, they could make an intelligent comment.

I think you are right, and I don't understand it either. My guess would be small-mindedness and an inability to effectively deal with people and communicate on a positive level. Ironically, I find this charactaristic in the most wealthy and successful of people. Those types generally are very competitive, which is why they are successful and wealthy, yet many of those types of people are also personal failures with many broken relationships and unhappy lives.

I don't see your point. The people who support the president are the most tolerant. It's the people on the left that are always making personal hateful attacks on the supporters of the president.
Personally, I don't care what names they call us. They are just sore losers. Their childish behavior only hurts their cause and helps to elect Republicans.
