Technically, there are a good number Antivirus's out there. The 'best' varies from year to year as companies are constantly changing engines.
'Best' can also be defined by their VB 100% ratings. VirusBulletin is a magizine that finds all the viruses that are 'in the wild' and tests how many the AV gets. If it gets them all it gets a 100% award. Look through their archives and look at the consistency of that rating to choose your AV.
Personally, Kaspersky is supposed to make a wicked AV, with the best detection in the business.
AND Norton is a resource pig that won't uninstall and harms your system. Mcafee advertises alot and takes alot of resources too, Quickheal if i remember doesn't pass the 100% very often. AVG is ok, but i hear its unstable, and Trend-Micro I hear isn't too bad.

Of all anti virus mentioned.... try first ANTIVIR. I've tried lots of antivirus and ANTIVIR still the best!
