Absolutely not. They have no political authority as such but they can safeguard against any introduction of oppressive regimens. If need be, for instance if the government decided to become genocidal despots, the Queen using her people, influence and armies could in theory curtail their activity. Our Queen has literally sacrificed her life for the country and its people so I think we owe her a little respect. Some of the younger royals were silly and misguided in the past, but on the whole they're a good lot.
Also, we pay a few pence a year to the civil list, they pay their own taxes and raise millions for charity. Why should they be unnecessary? What about our tourist industry? Just a couple of weeks ago I was in London to see Trooping the Colour. As I made my way down to Horse guards parade I could barely move for the thousands of foreign tourists hoping for a glimpse of the royals. They make us a damn site more money than they cost and a great deal of their wealth is ours as a state rather than theirs personally.

Of course Its useless if they pay more taxes in theses countries its even worse. Monarchy its another old inequality game, human have invented see its about being born with ''royal blood '' and to ''rule'' a land that have been giving to us as silly as that and this is still accepted. European conquerors are a remind of all the countries, people (slavery), that have been destroyed . Unless they haven't been war and conquering the monarchy still exist still remind us that there still evolution to be done in the world. In ''modern'' countries were we work to rule your something, we still are complaining about the system perhaps there a monarchy inspiration here or perhaps its the other way around all that Hollywood , celebrity and Bush praise look kind of monarchy to me.

The question is somewhat immature. what proportion heads of state treatment maximum cancers? it is no longer of their occupation direction to discover scientific treatments. Scientists have yet to discover a treatment for many cancers and that's a ingredient of their scientific coaching. The Royal family does not initiate the wars the two, it is no longer their activity to end wars. Our elected politicians initiate and end wars. you think of that the Royal family is particularly dumb, because you don't understand what their activity is, as is glaring out of your motives given for thinking that they're a waste of money. The Queen meets, greets and entertains different heads of state. She gets the credentials of ambassadors. She awards honours. She opens significant public homes and heads the protection stress she is customer of the humanities and heads and works for charities and much, lot extra. All of this could could desire to be carried out with the aid of somebody else, if the Queen did no longer do it. The best minister does not have time to accomplish all of those obligations, so somebody could could desire to be elected, meaning extra high priced elections, each 4 years, to decide for somebody to do what the Queen has been doing expertly and without fault, for the final almost sixty years. the money coming in from the Crown Estates, approximately £258 million, which the Queen owns, is going to the government, The Queen gets approximately £40 8 million from the government meaning that we, the human beings, are extra beneficial than £2 hundred million in earnings, each 365 days, this money is going into the government coffers to help for shortfalls in earnings tax. So, no, The Royal family isn't a waste of money. @ Tina P, what are you speaking approximately? Who asked you to worship them? Who advised you to worship them? i'm going to respond to for you. no person asked you to worship them and no person advised you to worship them the two.

Bloody Yank here.
But I think the Royal Family with lineage that goes back hundreds and hundreds of years is part of the British National identity and their history and something not to be discarded like a government agency that has lived out its usefullness.
And they do bring in the tourists.

Not necessarily. It's like Americans and the flag. No matter how much we criticize the government, we all rally 'round the flag. It's the same with the Brits. No matter how bad the government, "God Save the Queen."
