We have DirecTV the regular package with no locals and HBO. It is $51 a month. When we first started basic, no locals, no pay channels was $32 but it has gone up about a dollar a year for the last 5 years and I believe it is now $37.99 for the most basic package you can get.
We only have one receiver, but we have it wired to watch it anywhere in the house. You have to pick the channel in the living room and you can only watch the same thing on every TV but they charge you $5 per month for every receiver you have. That's why the deal about buying a receiver and getting 3 free is a rip off, you just committed to an extra $20 a month.
Check their website, it is a little more honest than their commercials.
We got our dish for free on the Internet by agreeing to have the service for a year. We installed the dish ourselves. Not that difficult. So there was no installation or equipment to buy.
My parents have Dish Network. It costs them less, like $35 but they don't have as many channels as we do. It also goes out every time it rains, but just while it's raining.
We decided against the Dish Network years ago, when picking a satellite provider because they had complaints with the better business bureau

RE:
What is your actual total monthly bill for DirectTV/Dish Network?
The ads and offers always seem to avoid letting a potential customer calculate a specific "real" price, and we all know that with all the additional charges they tack on that it's not really the dollar amount they put on those ads. So, to those of you with Dish Network or Direct TV,...

Ours runs about $65. We get the basic channels and a few extras. We pay extra for: the product protection stuff, local channels and the DVR services. We have never had a lick of trouble from Direct TV and am please with the overall service. I really think it is the best in the long run.

I have directv with Total Choice Plus, HD package, HBO, Showtime, HD DVR, and 3 other receivers. My bill comes out to about $110 / month. Plus, if you want to HD, you have to purchase receivers.

Doesn't cost anything if you know how to program your own card.
