I'm biased and can't understand as to why many girls aren't interested in video games.
Please, enlighten me.

Is it the way they are marketted..or what?

Cheers!

Any negativity towards video games won't hurt my feelings or offend me. =) I'm thinking about doing a thesis about gender/race/age on video gaming

Marketters do gear advertising towards males, because that's where the money is.

Guys like more action, adventure, and straightforwardly more shooting. Girls tend to like shopping or on fashion. That's just how it is! =D

I am not not sure what the reason for that is, in fact I love playing video games but my other 2 sisters do not and only like to watch them...I dont think it has nuch to do with the type of game because they dont like any kind of game and they never did. I remember playing Sega Mastersystem with my brother when I was really young and I have been playing any and all games since then, Genesis, nintendo/64 etc Sony, and I even like arcade games and I have a table type arcade game thats really old and is called Nucleus Cannon...its really old and cheesy but I still love it and my sisters never even played that growing up, but I did all the time. I have made them try before and they seem to be the type of person that if they arent good at something right away they dont want to bother trying and give up, me on the other hand if I lose at first that makes me want to keep playing so I can kick the games butt. I think thats why some people dont like video games and since women are usually less competitive than a man, it is usually women who dont have a desire to conquer the game and so dont want to play.

What!? I love video games. I know that the reason many girls will not play them is because they know that they are addictive and many girls think that they have other more pressing things to do than to waste 12 hours a day on a video game, but there are some girls out there, that like many men, love video games a lot and will play them for 12+ hours. I would not really be one because I have other more pressing things to do, but there are girls out there that will do that.

I like video games, but not as much as my male counterparts. Women are much more social than men, or at least their form of social activity is to talk, connect more on an emotional level. Men generally like to do an activity together to be social, as opposed to sitting around just talking. This is just a fundamental difference between men and women. Video games lack that social aspect that women need, and has exactly the kind of social interaction that men love. This psychological reality can be illustrated in pretty much any activities that are "typically" male or female. Think about it.

I think it has something to do with the way our brain functions actually in some strange way. like, guys have a natural feel and need for action and adventure, as someone has already said, but also hand-eye coordination. I like video games, and your term "many" is probably not as many as you think. many girls DO like video games. Also it could be the way the games are marketed, most games targeting male teens because they are the ones who everyone assumes LOVES video games, therefore they do. It's complicated, so i can't explain well, but i did my best!!

Although it has a lot to do with marketing there is some anthropology involved. Your genetic code says that you as a man are a hunter so you have some need to practice your skills alot of which are simulated in video games. Women are completley capable of getting into games as much as any guy but the tendency makes it less common.

I'll let you in on a little secret.... girls love video games as much as guys. It's just the time that guys spend on video games that girls hate. Every hour spent playing games, is one less hour with her. Try asking her to play with you next time. Or take her to rent one and ask her to pick it out. You might get better results.

Video games seem to be an instant gratification for many men. They are exiting but they are not real. Most women are happier to achieve this state through the means of the real (non- digital) world has to offer!

I don't know about other ladies but I just find them incredibly boring. There is so much to do in life and I don't want to waste it sitting/standing in front of a video game. If it works for you though then go for it!

Because they are boring as hell. One of my exs played video games 24 hours a day and that was even while I was there.

Its psychology. Men are competitive against themselves OR against others. Women don't tend to try to outdo themselves so much.

Also, because men are so competitve, they like to play video games because if they lose, its private. Women can usually detach themselves emotionally from a game more.

Of course, all of those are general statements...
