well, i guess in India, most people seem to use them interchangably, but there is a difference all right
A call center has just once function - taking calls! Basically, if a company X has a call center then all callers wanting to call that company get routed to this center where some one who is capable of handling their query will answer their call
A BPO is a business process outsourcing place. What it means is that a company using a BPO set up can have a call center but can also have a payroll computation center or calculate taxes or leaves etc for the parent company.
Basically, a BPO is a lot more different types of work

First i will tell you what bpo is...
BPO stands for Business Process Outsourcing. Which means, a businessman/company can transform it's business processes (like Accounting, Book Keeping, etc.) so, basically BPO is a part of a wider term known as Outsourcing. (Outsourcing means you assign your own task to someone and you pay for it because you don't want to do the work yourself, due to economical or whatever reasons)
In US the local labour is more costlier than the indian labour so, US companies prefer Indian labour. Due to economical (and many other) reasons. So, they outsource their company's work to india.
Now, did you got BPO?
Let us define Call center now,
a call center is basically a subset of a part of a wider term known as a BPO. So, BPO includes call center but the vice versa is not true. For eg. A Call center company is given a contract to take all the calls related to a given company ,
for e.g. British Airways. The British Airways, will give their call center number of WNS (a call center company) as their own help desk number. So, when a customer dials the phone number for British Airways helpdesk the call center picks up the phone and in this way his query is resolved.
Outsourcing includes BPO and call center
BPO includes call center
and a call center is of course only a call center.
Some call center call themselves as call center but they might be doing all the BPO activies, so they generally are BPO only.
Ok , got it!
