Try getting married to a rock, a crocodile or Norman Bates. See how far this "unconditional love" goes.
They say communication is key to any lasting relationship. Isn't that another condition? Would you unconditionally love an inanimate object, a cold blooded predatory reptile, a psycho serial killer or a piece of turd, literally and metaphorically speaking. Would you love a repulsive person with no admirable qualities? Would you love someone who won't love you back? For how long would this delusion last?

That's really tough to answer.
Love in the agape sense (wanting good for the other) should be unconditional.
I guess unconditional "expressions of appreciation" not based on what ther person can do for you is a good thing to a point.
At what point, though, would it become enabling?
Love isn't a carpet we should pull out from underneath each other when we disappoint each other. But at the same time, it's not a crutch that enables us to live outside of reality.
I believe you can genuinely love another person with whom you cannot have a good relationship. Love, in it's highest sense, must be unconditional to be love at all.
But loving relationships cease to be loving when the either fail to confront or when they use every confrontation as grounds for ending the relationship.
It's tough to find the balance.

It could take a lifetime to understand what love is. And it would be worth the wait.
love is unconditional. It has no conditions, doesn't remember wrongs, isn't governed by distance or time, forgives all things, is blind, is more powerful than anything, endures all time and is the greatest thing you can have.
It not only should be but love IS unconditional.
One good example of this is the way a dog is to its owner. Even if the owner does this or that etc, the dog just loves unconditionally.
.
Your love comes from within yourself and isn't controlled or changed by anything. It is amazing. It doesn't appreciate, it cherishes. It doesn't change but only gets stronger (or we just recognise it more).
I love you Ana Sanjurjo Roman, and I am only beginning to understand how much.

Love in my world is unconditional and always has been. An expression of appreciation for someone is observed by the one being appreciated and noticed to the extent that they also return same. No exchange is being made, as tit for tat so to speak, but anyone with any feelings at all would return same only because of the expression being given to them and not taken for granted. Anyone that could accept unconditional love but not return it is selfish and self centered and not worthy of one's expression........

most definitely yes. an appreciation based on exchange is nothing more than a "loan" with superficial meaning. When you say u love somebody that means everything and anything about him/her plus the negatives about him because you believe that behind that wrong is something right. And, u do not say you love somebody til forever....you love him beyond forever.
Biblically speaking, Jesus died for us because of his unconditional love. He did not choose whom to die for.

Sometimes the pure existence of a person makes me feel so happy, that I consider that enough feedback for my love.
:-)
I think everybody does for others as much as they are able to do.
For me, unconditional love means that I am actually trying to not to expect too much in exchange, and to assure the person that they can trust in me, rely on me, no matter how hard life will be.

Whenyour parents gave you life and raising you, that love is unconditional. When you find a partner that you want to spend the rest of your life with, the love should be unconditional or else it will not work.
Yes love should be unconditional, you love the person for who they are, not for what they give you- that's LOVE

Depends how you define love. Love is an emotion that can be used to describe a variety of feelings and emotions. However true love in a 'soul mate' kind of way is unconditional and boy do you know it when it happens!

Love is ALWAYS unconditional. But, today's world has made it condtional. It is more of give & take; whether it is with family members, reletives, friends, work or any body else. Only love towards god is unconditional because it is one sided and GOD cannot be interacted with.

Love IS unconditional. If there are conditions, it isn't love. It's something else.
Love doesn't expect or require than anyone do anything "for you".
Love simply loves. It accepts, without demand.
