i have heard it is very expensive and you typically collect the cord blood, not the whole placenta (i've never heard of that). personally i think it's a waste of money. probably the only reason i would consider it is if i knew my child was at increased risk of developing a disease that would require a bone marrow transplant and if i knew that much i would probably not take the risk to begin with and consider adoption. but these are a few sites i found that look like they will give you some good info that you're looking for.

You only need the blood from the umbilical cord, not the whole placenta. Unless you plan to grill it for dinner.

freezing the placenta.... i never knew that... then again Pamela Anderson kept the one from her second son in her freezer......

see she apparently kept it there for good luck. she was going to have it buried under a fountain that her and Tommy were having built at there house. was supposed to be good luck and stuff for there marrage.,...............you sure u wanna freeze it?
