We know of four - length, width, height, and time. However, there are many other theories which suggest a different number, typically 10, 11, or 26.

These numbers originate from superstring theories, of which there are 5.

The bosonic theory predicts 26 dimensions, while the I, IIA, IIB, HO, and HE all predict 10.

So definitively, there are four. Theoretically, there could be up to 26.

To understand these theories, I would get a good book on the String Theory. It is highly theoretical and abstract physics which might be easier to grasp under the influence of LSD, but read it nonetheless.

That question has yet to be determined. The "visible" dimensions in our universe are 3 space and 1 time, 4 dimensions. However, superstring theory brings in "hidden dimensions" and it is not sure how many of these there are. Maybe 11 or 12. For more infomation read "The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene.

There are three space dimensions and one time dimension, known and recognised by human brain. However, when the mathematical model of outer space was made, an equation emerged, considering that there are either 10 or 26 dimensions in outer space. This has emerged because of the fact that sometimes and somewhere in the outer space a collision of two different dimensions occurs, making special kind of planar surface in space-time, where some other dimensions are in charge. Those combinations are found after solving a square equation, whose sloutions were 10 and 26. The equation itsef was raised from linear forms that either involved or discarded time in those calculations.

In spite of all those calculations, humas are restricted to 3+1-dimensional world, because of their sense for space and time.

There are at least 3 dimensions, length, breadth and height.
Time has been postulated as the fourth dimension. This is gaining credibility, but is not certain.
Superstring theory suggests 19 dimensions, which are all curled up in on themselves. Bear in mind, however, that superstring theory is yet to provide a provable hypothesis, so it is still mainly in the domain of philosophy rather than science.

Just google superstring theory and you'll find heaps of good stuff.

HEY what do u mean by dimensions???I know a scientist who is working with 27 dimensions.Dimensions rather degrees of freedom are relative to the system in which you are working.A rod moving of constant length has five degrees of freedom and needs 3 dimensions to express it's position.A hyperplane in n dimensional space has n dimensions....So just like I said it's relative to the system in which you are working.

Lisa Randall and Raman Sundrum have proposed a 5-dimensional multiverse in which our local universe is a 4-dimensional "sinkhole".

When the Large Hadron Collider comes online this year or next, their hypothesis can be tested.

The problem with knowing how many dimensions there are is that we are basically 3-Dimensional creatures, and cannot grasp further dimensions. There really could be an infinite amount, and there probably is.

a fifth dimension i suspect to be like the first spirit world, including dreams, imagination, things unbound by time or the first 3
i have never heard a description of any beyond that so i don't know why they stop at a number like 9 or12 or w/e
