It is the military's *job* to protect our country/freedom, but that is different than what has *given* us our freedom. That would be civic leaders and capitalism.

The Military. They are the point on of the spear of freedom.
There are many who protect our freedoms that are not military.
Civic leaders, Judges, activists, legislators. Some you agree with and some you won't. Without our military we would not have the civic leaders you mentioned, however the military is called a "Blunt Weapon" and is not what you want to define our laws and civil liberties. For that purpose you need a finer tool. To defend our freedoms the military. To keep us morally and legally straight, we need the others.
Freedom is not free.
A self governing democracy of men is not easy.
If men were angels we wouldn't need governments or military.
If men were ruled by angels we could forget about the government and just live without worry.
But men are ruled by men, and to have "Freedoms" and keep men from mischief and exploitations we need our Military and our Civic leaders and our USA versions of "Mahatma Gandhi's" whatever their names.
A very loaded question.

The military, unfortunately. The idea that people with guns are the reason for our freedom is absurd. Freedom exists because people opt to abide by standards of conduct that disdain the promulgation of repressive behaviours.

Bottom line is Americans do, so stop voting for ppl like Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton or one day you wont be able too protect our self. " God Bless" our troops and their family's for giving the ultimate sacrifice their lives for ours, I support every thing they are doing over there! remember one thing troops, "no regrets just remorse" you are all doing what has too done because no one else wants too do it but they all want it done

I don't think we (the military) get the credit we deserve, bc people aren't over there they don't know what we go through to protect them.
