It is hard to accept, but for people of that age I think its pretty damn hard. Often times they get too stubborn and don't see the whole "life and death" issue.

I suppose the happier he is the less he will smoke, but then again he could already be addicted which wouldn't matter much.

Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck!

Nicorette gum worked very well for me. It took the edge off. Also, change your schedule. If your morning routine is to drink coffee & smoke at the kitchen table, then take your coffee into the living room. If you want that cigarette after your meal, then get up & do the dishes or go for a walk instead. Change the routine. That's #1. Or try phillipmorrisusa.com. Good luck.

If you find out, tell me. My dad had a stroke (because of smoking) and is now confined to a wheelchair with lost use of his left hand. The minute he came home from a three month hospital stay he started smoking again. Nothing's worked thus far.

My neighbor stopped smoking a few months ago. She swears by hypnosis, it worked immediately for her. She smoked a lot... she lives across the street and it seemed she was on her front porch with a cigarette all the time. She feels so much better and has started running.

Good luck!!!

Tell him to quit 'trying' . It's too easy to forgive yourself for 'slipping' if you 'tried'.
He should just not smoke - one day at a time.
He will be pleasantly surprised how much easier it gets each day. And so will all the rest of us!!!
