Do you have a degree from a US institution? If you don't, it may be really hard for you to find a job here. I'm a Graphic/Interactive Design major in college, and one of my school friends is Indian. She has a college degree in Advertising Design from India, but she still has to take some classes in our program in order to have her degree validated in the States.

As far as salary goes, you are paid on an hourly basis. Salary varies according to your position in the company and your experience. With a college degree, you can expect to be paid between $12 and $25 per hour for an entry position, depending on the company. But if you already have experience in the field, you can make more.

Work culture: I don't want to discourage you, but my teachers in school can't stop stressing how competitive this business is. It must be a real cut-throat environment (that's why I'd like to work for a small studio, freelance and open my own business as soon as I can).

How long? Well, that's up to you. Once you are here and you see how you like it and how it goes, you can make up your mind.

Its not dead, depends on where your at and what kinda of graphic designer you want to be. You can go into game designing and design game graphics, web design, visual graphics like flash animation. Definitely not a dead field and will pay decent depending on what you do, you can do prepress for digital company's getting files ready for printing or any type of production. I would say you would start making 40-60k a year and it can scale from there depending on where and what your doing. Ill say thing though, the field is very competitive, so if your going to do that make sure you become good at it, and know what your doing. your 13, you have a lot of time to choose what you wanna do, do some research, mess around with photoshop and all those cool adobe programs see how you like it and what not. See how you like it you can always introduce yourself to it before you start actually pursuing it cause you could definitely change your mind down the road.

You can work remotely as a freelancer if you want to continue being an illustrator. As for animator and graphic designer, get TAILORED portfolios together and send them to selected companies in the US. The advantages of being an artist is that as long as you're good and they want you, they'll bring you to the US and deal with the legalities. Good luck!
