Well I don't normally understand why Bush does anything but in this case at least I do understand it.
Basically it is like this, since the USA participated in the development/creation of Israel, if Bush doesn't back them, that would be like agreeing with the other side. And he can't do that because the other side's goal is the complete destruction of Israel.
So Bush is caught in a catch22... a lose lose situation really. Because if he does back them then those who hate the USA will hate Israel also. Then if he does not back them they are left wide open as a target and that's going against an ally.
Also there is the aspect of hypocrisy that Bush has himself backed into. Bush invaded Iraq and many said that was using excessive force on a country that was weak with a small next to nothing military. Now, Israel is doing the same to Hezbollah in Lebanon which is causing a lot of innocent Lebonese to die. BUT Bush can't say a damn word because that's what he did.

He's always backing Israel because simply USA is controlled by Zionists(Jews) and Bush is their puppet.
They control the media, they manipulate the voting system through their lobby, they own lots of the big companies that affect the american economy. They twist facts and make things look they way that serve their goals. So basicallly they're like a cancer that has spread in USA that would be so hard to get rid of.They do all that in a very smart way that not alot of people can notice it.
And for the people who mentioned that israel is the only democracy in the middle east, Israel is the only terrorist in the middle east. There is no democracy whatsoever in that region I don't even believe that democarcy exist in any place around the world.
Please read history from nonbiased sources and see how israel has occupied palestine and how many innocents they have killed and still killing till now then judge for yourself who is the terrorist.

i hate bush.... and yes, i belive a lot of his support for israel is based on his evangelical beliefs.
HOWEVER - keep in mind that Israel is the only democracy in the middle east.
All the other arab nations are 3rd world nations run by the Koran.
(other than a few countries like Turkey and Egypt).
Therefore, Israel is a very important friend in the middle east.
Rememeber... We are against terror. Israel is agsint terror.
We are against afghanistan, iran, syria - and so is israel.
If we went to war over there, outside of Iraq - Israel would be fighting along side our soldiers to help them.

Bush may have made some errors of judgement, but he has moral clarity and the guts to say and do exactly what he thinks is right.
He realizes that Israel is in an impossible position, where it tries and tries to make peace, but is only met with vicious attacks on both its soldiers and civillians -- and then is expected not to defend itself. (How ridiculous is that? Since when does a country not have the right to defend its citizens?)
Bush is simply supporting the party that is trying hardest for peace and getting slapped in the face in return.
Like I said, moral clarity. Most other presidents would not have dared to alienate the Arabs in order to do what is right.

because, Israel is the only true democracy in the whole middle east and is not a country controlled by radical Muslim's determined to kill all the "infidels", namely everyone that does not believe everything that they believe, including other Muslims, that are not radical enough !!! Israel is a decent, logical ally in a neighborhood of nutcases..even Egypt and Jordan fear their Palestinians populace, from overthrowing their fragile governments..Jews have won like 35-40 % of Nobel prizes, and only comprise about 2% or less of the world's population..what does that tell you about their contributions to the world's society's and the difference they make in this world...my sources..me--i am proud to be an American, a Veteran, and a Jew in that order, just like John F. Kennedy said, except he was Catholic..otherwise the same priorities for us both !!!!!

Musikurt has a point. Isreal is our ally and so we have to support them politically even if we don't agree with everything they do. At one point, several years back the US was starting to go whoa Isreal don't get so carried away. Then we got a little taste of the terrorism they deal with all the time. Now I don't think there is anything they can do to make America turn its back on them and recent events prove that.

America was a driving force in the establishment of Israel as a nation so there might be an obligation there to help it continue to thrive and exist.

First Israel is the longest surviving democratcy in the middle east.
Secondly the US wants the other countries to become democratic.
Thirdly the US does not want the terrorist, Hezbollah, Hamas, and the PLO to succede in causing more harm than it has already.
