Is it possible to do all computer fuctions on a HDTV connected to a computer?

I would like to hook up my media center PC to my HDTV, i have the right cables and graphics cards. i was just wondering if many people ditch their monitors and do everything from their tv using a wireless keyboard and mouse, or is the text too small even on a big tv

I have the Samsung HLP5674W (56" HDTV).
I have a computer behind the stand that hooks
into the DVI slot. I have a wireless mouse and keyboard
on my coffee table. By a switch of my tv remote video input
button I get my computer on a huge screen.

Windows XP allows high def so it is cool and great for
games and surfing the web, showing pictures to people,
etc. However, when I need to do real work (text editing
or really focusing on web text) it is still not nearly as good
as sitting up close to a regular monitor (which I have next
to the tv running linux).
