This problem can be caused by quite a few causes. If it runs fine when you are not using it but restarts when you start running programs it could be overheating or your ram may be going bad. If it restarts or shuts down even when it is running idle then it may be your power supply. To try and rule out these causes I would recommend downloading memtest and motherboard monitor or programs equivalent. Both of the programs I mentioned are freely distributed on the internet. I would give you links but I'm not sure if that would be against the rules.
It could also be software bugs or even virus/spyware. Update your antivirus and run a scan if possible. You may want to remember the last program or application you ran before this problem arose as that may be the culprit.

Sounds like SASSR to me, but there are other viruses that do that. It could also be a problem with your CPU overheating. Email me a HijackThis Log and I'll have a look at it to see if we can rule out the possibility of virus infection. If you're not too technical, I'll try to walk you through it via messenger.
Run HijackThis, select the scan and save logfile option. Open up the logfile, copy and paste it into an email and send it to me (alloy45224@yahoo.com).

Well, if it shuts off when you are using it, it has something wrong with it. If it shuts off when not being used it has the power settings set to do so. Go to control panel and check them, or right click on desktop, properties and go to the screensaver tab to access the power settings.

I've been in that situation either! but i notice that my problem is my OS(operating system) maybe this could be help.
1. check if there is any virus or spy ware (scan your computer)
2. check your hardware compatibility (ram, video card etc.)
3. reinstall your windows.

2 possible causes: 1. Software: Windows or Program error.
(I guess) 2. Hardware failure:common is CPU
overheating or loose/damaged memory.
